Collocation Worksheet vocab.rtf

Here's an example of an entry to help you out.
Word/Phrase: “Tempt”-v. To make someone want to do something
Context: (class textbook) “The knowledge hype may tempt us to regard only formal modern knowledge systems as worthy of attention.”
Language Pattern: - tempt someone to do something
My example of use: My friend tempted me to stop studying and come to the party.
Questions & Answers (examples):
Questions: Do I always need to use the pattern: someone to do something? Can I just say “He tempted me.”? Or “He tempted to go?”
Answers: If I use: “He tempted me.” I don’t have to include the something because it’s understood in the context of the whole conversation. All speakers were talking about the party, so I didn’t have to say what he tempted me to do.
If I use: “He tempted to go.” I don’t have to include the someone part because it’s understood that he was tempting himself. So someone can be the same person as the subject if it’s “self-tempting.”
